NPR Affiliate Car Donation
National Public Radio, NPR as it’s commonly called, was established in 1970, pursuant to the Public Broadcasting Act of 1967. NPR programming can be heard on over 800 radio stations across the United States, but NPR is not a radio station itself, nor does NPR actually own any of the stations that carry its programming.
You may be surprised to learn that NPR is not actually a government entity, but is instead a private, nonprofit organization. NPR maintains the world’s first noncommercial, satellite-delivered radio network. They also provide programming through other media such as the internet, books, CD’s and satellite radio.
NPR produces and distributes over 100 hours of quality, original programming every week. NPR is widely respected for the diversity and quality of their programming, including their award-winning news magazine, Morning Edition. Other NPR programming favorites include music program All Things Considered, the game show Wait, Wait… Don’t Tell Me, and the talk show Car Talk, where hosts Tom and Ray Tappet, a/k/a “Click” and “Clack,“ provide professional, helpful insight to car owners seeking repair advice -- with a dash of humor thrown in. Your local NPR affiliate radio station may also supplement this programming with their own original offerings.
Tom and Ray Tappet, hosts of NPR’s Car Talk, have set up a car donation program through which those who are interested can make a vehicle donation in support of their local public radio station. Tom and Ray have partnered with V-DAC to orchestrate this effort to provide much-needed funding to the local public radio stations that provide your area with NPR programming.
While the funds collected through Car Talk's car donation program go to your local Public Radio station and not directly to NPR, it is important to remember that NPR does receive funding from these local public radio stations, who must pay NPR for the rights to air their programming. If you’d like to make a difference for your local NPR affiliate radio station, this is a great way to do so, while also earning a nice tax deduction.
